Four folk music-playing sisters from Colorado might seem quite tame, but with classical training and diverse instruments creating a hypnotic sound with infectious rhythms, you end up with SHEL.

With the band's name an acronym for their names - Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liza. Not many would think to fuse the sounds of a mandolin, drums, djembe, violin and a dash of beatboxing but these ladies are anything but mainstream, and it shows. Strongly against the 'you can't play with us' adage, the girls are comfortable performing at festivals or jamming with orchestras, and it also helps that their debut album The Laboratory Sessions proved to be critically acclaimed. For their next record they've enlisted the help of Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, so don't expect this band to be a one hit wonder.
